Bachelor of Pharmacy

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences was established in the year 2019, under the patronage of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust and is an inevitable part of the Indira Gandhi Group of Institutions. This college is approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), New Delhi, PCI (Pharmacy Council of India), New Delhi, and KUHS (Kerala University of Health Sciences) Kerala. Bachelor of Pharmacy is a four-year (4Yrs) program with eight semesters. Pharmacy is the art and science of preparing drugs and medicines. Bachelor of Pharmacy is one of the popular job-oriented courses among science students after class 12th/PUC. The main course is all about the preparation, analysis, and dispensing of various medicines for treating diseases. The course provides a wide spectrum of job opportunities in the public and private sectors, the candidates are also entitled to venture into their own Pharma businesses. Pharmacy graduate has an opportunity to work in a range of industries related to the production, manufacture, quality control & research/ formulation of medicines. Each candidate shall undergo practical training in a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing House or Laboratory or an approved Hospital/National Research Laboratory for a period of not less than 300 hours to be covered in not less than 2 months during the course period. B. Pharm degree will be awarded only after getting the training certificate from the training institute.

Eligibility :

Minimum Qualification for Admission to –

  1. First-year B. Pharm – A pass in any of the following examinations –

Candidate shall have passed the 10+2 examination conducted by the respective state/central government authorities recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 examination by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology as optional subjects individually. “However, the students possessing 10+2 qualification from non-formal and non-class rooms based schooling such as National Institute of Open Schooling(NIOS), open school systems of States, etc. shall not be eligible for admission to B.Pharm Course.”
  3. Any other qualification approved by the Pharmacy Council of India as equivalent to any of the above examinations.

Provided that a student should complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the course. Provided that there shall be reservation of seats for the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other Backward Classes in accordance with the instructions issued by the Central Government/State Government/Union Territory Administration as the case may be from time to time.

The selection of students for the B. Pharm course shall be made based strictly on merit as decided by the competent authority approved by the Government of Kerala or Kerala University of Health Sciences and as per guidelines of the Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi

B. PHARM LATERAL ENTRY
(Direct Admission to Second Year B.PHARM)

A candidate who had passed the Diploma in Pharmacy course of Educational Regulations 1991 under the Primary act 1948 from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India with a minimum of 50% marks in the final year examinations is eligible to admit direct second-year B.Pharm course (3 Yrs). Direct admission to Diploma in Pharmacy holders to the second year B.Pharm Course is subjected to the ceiling of approved strength of the first year course by the Pharmacy Council of India and All India Council for Technical Education. For those admitted directly to the second year, the course of study for the B. Pharm course shall be for a minimum period of three academic years.
